Tuesday 28th January 2014
Gilbert-Ash is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a £20 million contract for the refurbishment and extension of the Institution of Engineering & Technology’s building in Savoy Place in London. Work commenced on site this week and is due to complete in the summer of 2015.
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is the professional society for the engineering and technology community, with 150,000 members in 127 countries.
Their stunning building in Savoy Place was constructed in the late 19th century and still retains numerous period features. Refurbishment work will demonstrate how sustainable practices and technologies can be used to bring an important historic building up to modern standards in a sustainable way. The IET is also working with BRE to help develop their new BREEAM standard for sustainability in historic building refurbishments. IET London: Savoy Place will be used as a pilot case study for similar projects to work against.
Work on the building will include the construction of a new lecture theatre in the light well above the existing lecture theatre facilities.
Upgrades in energy efficiency, cutting edge IT, AV and wireless connectivity will also be at the core of the refurbishment, securing the venue as lone of London’s premier event and meeting destinations. The building’s views across the Thames will also be opened up to capitalise on the views across central London.
