4 easy ways to update your bedroom

Wednesday 19th June 2013

Your bedroom is your sanctuary to retreat to after a long hard day where you can escape from all the stresses and strains of the day. If you have fallen out of love with your bedrooms appeal it’s very hard to really relax and unwind and really enjoy it.
If your bedroom is in dire need of a makeover but you don’t have the time or the money, follow these simple steps to really bring life back to an otherwise drab room.

Window dressing
Windows are a key feature in the bedroom and dressing them with a pair of dull curtains can really have a knock on effect on the entire room. Why not try a chic pair of blinds, this will add a fresh modern edge to room whilst allowing you to have control over privacy and the sunlight entering the room.

Bed Linens
Most of the colour in a bedroom will come from the bed linen. If the bed linen in your room doesn’t coordinate or has lost its colour then maybe it’s time for a change as this will the rest of the room.  If you feel like starting decorating from scratch then choosing the bed linen colour is a great way to kick start the project. Try working it with an accessory or an effective contrast.
Alternately if you’re on a budget why not add a throw or a few fancy cushions to the bed for an instant ‘pick-me up’

Fresh Paint
A fresh lick of paint is perfect in order to alter the overall feel of any bedroom.  If you want a room with a more contemporary edge then a light green or blue will give it that appeal. A grey-based coat will create a more modern, slick feel. If you wish to create a more masculine feel to the room opt for  a darker tone such chocolate brown.  Bold colours are a big no-no, unless you like to be kept awake at night.

Finishing touches
Getting the finishing touches right in the bedroom is essential to complete the look. Having the typical fittings like a dresser, bedside table and wardrobe are all great, but its these last few details that stop the room looking bare. Try some ideas like this:

  • Fresh flowers in a vase on your dresser
  • A trendy lamp
  • Cosy rugs to bring warmth to the room
  • Pictures hung in a mismatch form
