Electric Vehicle Charging Points at Gilbert-Ash HQ
Gilbert-Ash has recently installed a number of electric charging points at our Head Office to promote the use of electric vehicles (EV). A number of employees now drive plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and the company has experienced a significant increase in the number of enquiries from staff. In response, and in line with our corporate sustainability strategy, we have now changed our company car policy to facilitate those opting for electric vehicles.

Although more expensive to buy, electric vehicles have significantly lower running costs when compared to a petrol or diesel equivalent. The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association has calculated that depending on when and how an electric vehicle is charged it will cost 2-4p per mile. This compares with 10-14p per mile for an equivalent petrol or diesel vehicle.

Opting for an electric vehicle has huge environmental benefits. Electric cars have no tail pipe emissions and it is estimated that an electric car powered from today’s grid could emit between 15%-40% less CO2 over its lifetime than a similar sized petrol car. Road transport is responsible for over 22% of the UK’s CO2 emissions.

Gilbert-Ash recognizes the financial and environmental benefits of using electric vehicles across our fleet. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and have set ourselves some challenging carbon reduction targets over the coming years. For further information about our environmental performance and other initiatives we have introduced to make our company impacts more sustainable, check out our Corporate Responsibility Report.
